Winterbeard Wood and Resin

About Winterbeard

Old Winterbeard was stuck inside an old Elm tree before we released him and now he overlooks the garden with its flowers and small trees, watching the birds come to bird feeder and enjoying nature as he never did before. Of course Winterbeard watches all over the manufacture of our products and keeps an eye on us making sure we take care of the wood.

All the boards on sale have been manufactured in house. Each board is individual on both wood type, size and resin colour. If we sell a board we can manufacture another in its place but the wood type and size may differ from the original, of course we will try to accommodate if we can to duplicate the original. In the case of live edge boards this may not be possible to duplicate due to the woods unique character. Please note where possible we use reclaimed woods, this may not be possible in all cases.

We are always open to enquiries for your specific needs or designs, we only charge a small fee for cutting the design if the design lends itself to be cut effectively. Please email bob.lochrie@gmail.com for your specific needs.

Here is a sample of one of our boards, this one is in Maple. After Carving out the resulting void is then filled with epoxy resin mixed with a coloured pigment, in this case the pigment is nebula red. After 48-72 hours the epoxy has cured and the board is then planed, sanded up to 3000 grit then oiled or waxed to protect the wood.

Many people use the boards for display purposes or for serving purposes and cutting boards. A great gift or personal idea for perhaps one of your favourite bands or just because you like the design.

Here is a sample of one of our 'river' tables. after selecting the wood and cleaning the live edge (the edge to the outside of the tree trunk). The wood is then cut to approximate size. A sealed mould is then constructed to enable the epoxy resin to be poured without spillage. After mixing, adding pigment and pouring the item is left for 3-7 days in order for the resin to cure. The table is then machined on each face and each side. The table is sanded up to 3000 grit and then polished oiled and waxed. The legs in this case are steel. The wood is Cherry and the epoxy pigment is Burnt Orange and Nebula Red mixed to give the effect of lava.
